A Tribute to Joanne
Charney
GRRI-NJ Volunteer & Past
GRRI-NJ Board Member

This issue of The GRRI
News is dedicated to the memory of long time volunteer
Joanne Charney, who lost her 18-month battle with cancer
on May 23, 2005.
She was strong-willed,
determined and dedicated. She believed
strongly that “if you breed, you must also rescue,” and
she lived by that belief. She was a true advocate for the dog. She was
always willing to call adopters to help them work
through problems they were experiencing with their
Goldens. She worked with families undecided about
surrendering their dogs. She loved to share her wealth of
knowledge with people new to the breed and to educate them
about the benefits of rescuing.
Joanne became a
volunteer of GRRI-NJ more than twenty years ago -– long
before our incorporation in March of 1997. We are deeply
saddened by her death, and the loss of a
committed volunteer and valuable source of knowledge about
the breed.
While her journey on
this earth has come to an end, we know that a new one has
begun at a place called the Rainbow Bridge ...
Joanne, you have been spotted, and when you and your
special friends reunite, you will cling together in
joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy
kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the
beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting
eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart. We know that you
have crossed the Rainbow Bridge together ...
Our heartfelt
condolences are extended to her son, Gabe, and to the rest
of her family.
